Menaul School is a college preparatory day and boarding school (grades 8-12 for international students) in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, founded in 1896 with a long history of welcoming international students from around the world (last year we had 18 countries represented). Menaul provides the foundation for life-long learning and ethical leadership and prepares students – in mind, body, and spirit – to be World Smart and serve as responsible global citizens.
While at Menaul School, students can earn Advanced Placement (AP) and dual credits (high school and college level), participate in short-term global exchanges, and prepare for their future. We offer comprehensive support for English Language Learners, including academic support, essay writing, public speaking, and one-on-one help with classroom work.
Situated on 32 acres, the tree shaded campus provides a quiet, college-like environment. Menaul School has 12 buildings, two gyms, soccer and football fields on campus. The school provides a variety of extracurricular activities, music, drama, fine arts, athletics, after school clubs and weekend activities for students. Dedicated dorm parents supervise boarding students.
Menaul School is certified to issue the paperwork for the visas and offers a welcoming environment where international students can fully prepare for the university of their choice. With a total student body of 200, students at Menaul receive individualized attention with a 7:1 student to teacher ratio and average class sizes of 12-15. Our students have been accepted to world-class universities, including Harvard, American, Amherst, Brown, St. Andrews, King’s College London, and New York University.
It’s also important to note that students who graduate with a diploma from Menaul School receive resident/local/in-state tuition at public universities in New Mexico (which can represent tuition savings of over $15,000 per year). In addition, they are eligible for other competitive scholarships based on academic performance. The three most common choices for universities within New Mexico include the University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, and New Mexico Tech (focuses on science and engineering).
We are accepting applications to start in January 2021 (we also have online options), and August 2021.
- As part of the application, we ask for the following for each student:
- Two teacher recommendations
- Official transcripts for the current year plus 2 previous years
- Copy of passport
- Language self-assessment
Once all documents are uploaded in the application and the application submitted, we can schedule a Skype interview. After the interview, if a student is admitted, a letter of acceptance and enrollment contract will be sent. When the contracts are signed and returned with a deposit (which goes towards tuition), we will issue an I-20 for the student, and they can set up an appointment with the US Consulate for the visa. If, for some reason, the visa does not go through, we do refund the deposit.
The full cost of tuition for one year is approximately $40,000 for boarding (including room, board, meals, transportation, weekend activities, health insurance, fees, everything). We are committed to making an excellent education as accessible to a diverse community as we can. We do offer partial scholarships based on financial need and for exceptional students. The amount awarded depends on the family’s situation, and we also consider regional economic factors, but it can be as high as 50-55%. The financial process is separate from the admission process and does not factor into the decision. Students are admitted based on their qualifications.
